Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Overview

Is one of Tanzania’s most enchanting and biodiverse destinations, located in the heart of the Southern Circuit. Known as the “Galápagos of Africa,” this park is a haven for nature lovers, botanists, and adventure seekers. With no roads within the park, the only way to explore it is on foot, making it a truly immersive wilderness experience.

The highlight of a visit is Trekking in the mountains, where well-marked trails lead through lush tropical rainforests, rugged cliffs, and highland plateaus. The most popular trek is the hike to Sanje Waterfalls, a 170-meter cascade that offers stunning views of the forest and the valley below, along with natural pools for a refreshing swim. Other trails, such as the Prince Bernhard’s Waterfall trail or the Lumemo Trail, offer longer and more challenging options.

Along the way, you may encounter endemic species like the Udzungwa red colobus monkey and the Sanje mangabey, along with a rich variety of birds, butterflies, and exotic plant life. It’s a trekking paradise unlike any other in East Africa.
